The Department of Energy has initiated the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (Extended to 2013). This includes a tax deduction for investments in “energy efficient commercial building property” designed to significantly reduce the heating, cooling, water heating, and interior lighting energy cost of new or existing commercial buildings. To qualify for the full deduction ($1.80 per sq. ft) a building owner must make investments designed to reduce energy costs by at least 50%. A partial deduction, and more likely to qualify, of up to $0.60 per sq. ft is available for investments in one of three systems: lighting, heating & cooling, or building envelope — designed to reduce energy costs by 16 and 2/3% (one third of the 50% requirement).

Additionally, reflective roof products can help reduce the “heat island effect, “a phenomenon in which cities can be 2 to 8°F warmer than the surrounding countryside. Such heat islands occur, in large part, because many buildings and paved surfaces are designed with dark materials that absorb heat from the sun. This heat is released at night, causing the air temperature to remain high. The resulting elevated temperature leads to an increased demand for air conditioning in buildings, increased fuel use for vehicle air conditioning, increased levels of smog, and associated increased levels of heat-related and smog-related health problems. Installing reflective roofs helps reduce the heat island effect, decreasing the amount of smog in the air and benefiting the entire community.”

By reducing energy consumption we can diminish our dependency on foreign oil/energy. The U.S. dependence on Foreign Energy/Oil is a National Security Issue. Of course, we are not suggesting that using our product on one roof or one building is going to solve the energy crisis, but if every business takes the initiative to:
